Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on this part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. A lot of people who aren't aware of they mistakenly believe it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. The article she wrote about her experience revealed published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. Once I was bigger than my male counterpart, I stopped. Many dancers make the transition to acting. In the case of the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. The teacher suggested she try to find a role in school's annual play. The student tried it out, and eventually got the lead for the role in Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the last 20 years, her roles on TV and the big screen have been varied. The role of Rita from the award winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of moments in the very first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian actor.
